Alcaraz Returns to Davis Cup as Zverev Leads Germany in Final 8
Carlos Alcaraz has been named in Spain’s squad for the Davis Cup Final 8, marking his return to the team competition for the first time since 2024. Germany will be led by Alexander Zverev, who is set to become world No. 1 in November, as eight nations prepare to compete in Bologna, Italy, from November 24 to 29.
Alcaraz missed last year’s competition because of injury. The Spaniard completed a career Grand Slam by winning the Australian Open in January and has identified the Davis Cup as one of the major titles he wants to win for his country. Spain captain David Ferrer has also selected Rafael Jodar and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, both ranked among the world’s top 15 players. Spain will face Austria in the quarter-finals.
Zverev will spearhead Germany’s campaign after the team reached the semi-finals last year. Germany, which last won the Davis Cup in 1993, will take on Britain on November 26. Britain’s squad includes Wimbledon semi-finalist Arthur Fery.
Defending champions Italy will attempt to secure a fourth consecutive title despite the absence of injured Jannik Sinner, who is sidelined for the remainder of the 2026 season. Flavio Cobolli, the French Open runner-up, will lead the Italian team alongside Lorenzo Musetti and Luciano Darderi. Italy faces South Korea on November 25.
South Korea will make its debut in the Final 8 after defeating India in the qualifiers. Kwon Soonwoo and Chung Hyeon will lead the team as it seeks a historic semi-final appearance.
The quarter-finals begin on November 24 with Czechia facing Canada. Austria will meet Spain on November 26. The semi-finals are scheduled for November 27 and 28, followed by the final on November 29.
The tournament will be held at the SuperTennis Arena at BolognaFiere. Each tie features two singles matches and one doubles match, with the eight teams competing for the men’s premier international team title.
The remaining squads include Czechia, Canada, Austria and Britain, completing the eight-nation field for this year’s championship.
