Akshaye Khanna Set to Make Telugu Debut as Shukracharya in 'Mahakali'

Veteran actor Akshaye Khanna is set to make his Telugu cinema debut with 'Mahakali', the upcoming mythological superhero film from filmmaker Prasanth Varma’s Cinematic Universe (PVCU). The actor plays Shukracharya, the revered guru of the Asuras, in a striking transformation that has already generated considerable curiosity.

Khanna’s look features a flowing silver beard, ascetic robes and an intense gaze, giving him a powerful and mystical appearance. The character is expected to be one of the key forces opposing Bhoomi Shetty, who plays the titular goddess Mahakali.

The makers have now announced that the film’s first glimpse will be unveiled on August 24. RKD Studios teased the reveal with the cryptic message, “24th August – The End Begins,” prompting speculation that audiences will get their first extended look at Khanna’s Shukracharya avatar.

Directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru and created by Prasanth Varma, 'Mahakali' expands the mythology-driven world established by 'Hanu-Man'. The project combines elements of Indian mythology with a contemporary superhero narrative and is being mounted on a large scale.

Khanna’s casting has added further anticipation to the film, particularly following his acclaimed performance in 'Dhurandhar'. His portrayal of Shukracharya marks a significant departure from his recent action-oriented roles and gives him an opportunity to explore a complex mythological character.

The film also features Rohit Saraf along with several other prominent actors. As part of the expanding PVCU, 'Mahakali' is expected to further develop Prasanth Varma’s larger cinematic world while placing Indian mythology at its centre.
