Akshaya Patra foundation to build greenfield kitchen in Kodangal

The Akshaya Patra Foundation has taken the initiative to provide nutritious mid-day meals to students in all government schools across the Kodangal constituency. Representatives from the foundation met with Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and invited him to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for their upcoming Greenfield Kitchen in Kodangal on November 14.

The state-of-the-art kitchen will be built on a two-acre site near NK Palli, close to Kodangal. Once operational, it will serve freshly cooked, hygienic, and nutritious meals every day to students in all government schools in the constituency.

Currently, the Telangana government spends around ₹7 per student on mid-day meals. In contrast, the Akshaya Patra Foundation plans to invest nearly ₹25 per student, covering the additional cost through its own resources and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnerships.

The foundation has been running a breakfast program in Kodangal since December last year. The initiative, covering 312 schools and benefiting about 28,000 students daily, has received an overwhelmingly positive response from both students and parents.

Building on the success of the breakfast program, Akshaya Patra’s mid-day meal initiative is expected to significantly improve student health, attendance, and learning outcomes. The Kodangal project could also serve as a model for similar initiatives across the country, demonstrating how public-private partnerships can enhance nutrition and education in rural India.
