Akshay Kumar car accident: Mumbai police files case against vehicle driver

A chain collision in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Monday night left two people injured after a speeding Mercedes hit an auto-rickshaw, which then crashed into a vehicle from Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar’s security convoy, police said. The driver of the Mercedes has been taken into custody and a case registered for rash and negligent driving.

The incident occurred at around 8:30-9:00 pm near Mukteshwar Road when the Mercedes allegedly rear-ended the auto-rickshaw that was stuck in traffic. The impact forced the three-wheeler into an Innova Crysta used by Kumar’s security team, severely damaging both vehicles.

The auto-rickshaw driver, identified as Basit Khan , suffered severe head injuries , while his passenger sustained minor injuries. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities said neither Akshay Kumar nor his wife Twinkle Khanna was in the vehicle involved in the collision ; they were in a separate car in the convoy and remained unhurt.

Juhu Police arrested the Mercedes driver, identified as Radheshyam Jitendra Rai (55) , and registered a case under sections 281, 125(A) and 125(B) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to rash and negligent driving and endangering human life. The registration number of the seized Mercedes was reported as MH01EV0002 .

Videos and eyewitness footage from the accident site quickly circulated on social media, showing the badly damaged auto-rickshaw and bystanders helping authorities and rescue teams pull an injured man from the wreckage.

Speaking to the media, Mohammed Sameer , brother of the auto-rickshaw driver, said the vehicle was completely destroyed and that his brother’s condition was serious. He urged authorities to ensure proper medical care, necessary medicines, and compensation for the damaged rickshaw.

Police continue to investigate the exact circumstances of the crash, including reviewing CCTV footage and statements from witnesses to determine whether excessive speed or other factors contributed to the chain collision.
