Akshay Kumar calls for Cyber classes in schools

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar on Friday raised concerns about the rising threat of cybercrime among children, sharing a disturbing incident involving his 13-year-old daughter. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Cyber Awareness Month 2025 at the State Police Headquarters in Mumbai, the actor emphasized the importance of educating young users about online safety.

Akshay recounted how, a few months ago, his daughter was playing an online video game that allows interaction with strangers. During gameplay, an unknown individual approached her, asking for personal information. “While you are playing, sometimes a message comes from there… Then a message came, ‘Are you male or female?’ She replied female. And then he sent a message: ‘Can you send me nude pictures of yours?’ It was my daughter,” Akshay revealed. He added that his daughter immediately switched off the game and informed her mother, highlighting how such incidents mark the beginning of serious cybercrimes.

Focusing on solutions, Akshay strongly urged the Maharashtra government to introduce a weekly “cyber period” in schools for students of grades seven to ten, where children could be educated about online threats, safe internet usage, and cybersecurity practices. “With technology evolving rapidly, cyber education is no longer optional; it is essential for the safety of our children,” he said, calling on both the government and families to take proactive steps in protecting young users.

Joining Akshay at the event were Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla, Mumbai Police Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, and Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji. Akshay’s appeal reflects a broader effort to make cyber education a formal part of school curricula, ensuring children are better prepared for the digital age.
