Akbaruddin Owaisi Says He May Not Contest Next Assembly Election
AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi has indicated that he may not contest the next Telangana Assembly election, triggering speculation over his political future. He made the remarks while interacting with students at his education campus in Hyderabad’s Old City on Saturday.
Speaking during the programme, Akbaruddin said he was not sure whether he would contest the next election and suggested that he currently had no intention of entering the electoral race.
“I don’t know whether I will contest the next Assembly election. I have no intention of contesting. I have become old and will not contest,” he said.
The remarks have attracted attention in Telangana’s political circles, particularly because Akbaruddin has been a prominent political figure in the state and a key leader of the AIMIM. His possible decision to stay away from the next Assembly election could have significance for politics in the Old City as well as the wider state.
During his interaction with students, Akbaruddin also reflected on his political journey and educational background. He said that although he had studied only up to Class 12, he had risen to a position where even the Chief Minister had to respond to him in the Assembly.
His comments have now sparked discussion over whether he was expressing a firm decision to retire from electoral politics or merely speaking about his current intentions. With the next Assembly election still ahead, questions are being raised about whether Akbaruddin will eventually reconsider his decision and enter the contest.
For now, his remarks have added an element of uncertainty to the political landscape of Hyderabad’s Old City, where his political presence has remained significant for years.
