Ajit Doval holds high-level talks in Saudi Arabia amid West Asia tensions
India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held high-level meetings with Saudi Arabia’s top leadership in Riyadh on Sunday, focusing on bilateral ties, regional security, and strategic cooperation , amid escalating tensions in West Asia that have implications for India’s stability.
Doval, who arrived in the Saudi capital on Sunday, was received by India’s Ambassador Suhel Khan and Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister for Political Affairs Saud Al-Sati . During his visit, he met Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan , Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman , and National Security Advisor Musaed Al-Aiban .
According to the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia, the discussions covered bilateral relations, evolving regional dynamics, and areas of mutual interest , underscoring the importance of close coordination between the two countries.
The visit assumes significance as ongoing instability in West Asia continues to affect India’s strategic and economic interests , particularly in areas such as energy security, trade routes, and the safety of Indian nationals in the region. Saudi Arabia remains one of India’s key partners in ensuring stable energy supplies.
Doval’s engagements also come ahead of a possible second round of talks between the United States and Iran , expected later this week in Pakistan, aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region. The first round of negotiations held on April 11-12 ended without a breakthrough , raising concerns over prolonged uncertainty.
With geopolitical tensions persisting, India’s outreach to key regional players like Saudi Arabia highlights its efforts to safeguard national interests while contributing to regional stability .
