Ajinkya Rahane fined ₹12 lakh as KKR penalised for slow over rate against CSK
Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane has been fined ₹12 lakh after his team maintained a slow over rate during their Indian Premier League clash against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The penalty comes at a time when KKR are already going through a difficult phase in the tournament. The defending champions suffered a 32-run defeat against CSK on Tuesday, further extending their winless run and leaving them at the bottom of the points table.
According to an IPL media advisory, the sanction was imposed after KKR fell short of the required over rate during Match No. 22 of the TATA IPL 2026 . The statement confirmed that the breach falls under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct , which deals with minimum over rate offences.
Since this was Kolkata Knight Riders’ first offence of the season under this rule, Rahane was fined ₹12 lakh as the captain responsible for the team’s on-field conduct. The league noted that the action was taken in line with standard disciplinary procedures to ensure teams maintain the required pace of play.
For KKR, the defeat and the fine together add to a growing list of concerns in what has been a disappointing campaign so far . Despite expectations coming into the season, the team has struggled to find momentum, with both batting and bowling units failing to deliver consistent performances.
The focus now shifts quickly to their next fixture against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Friday, where KKR will be hoping to turn their fortunes around and register their first win of the season.
For Rahane, the challenge will not only be about tactical adjustments on the field but also about lifting a side that is currently searching for confidence and rhythm in a tightly contested tournament.
