
Airport Modernisation in Rajahmundry Set to Elevate Godavari Travel Experience
Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu has announced that construction of the new terminal building at Rajahmundry Airport is progressing swiftly and is expected to be inaugurated soon. During his on-site visit, the Minister reviewed the works with officials and directed that construction be accelerated to meet the March 31 completion deadline . He held a review meeting with representatives of the Airports Authority of India and the contracting agency to ensure timelines are strictly followed.
The new terminal is being developed with modern infrastructure , designed to significantly enhance passenger handling capacity and improve the overall travel experience. The project is estimated to cost around ₹350 crore , making it a key medium-scale aviation upgrade in Andhra Pradesh. Once operational, the expanded facility is expected to ease congestion, support growing air traffic, and position Rajahmundry as a stronger regional aviation hub.
The development is also aligned with preparations for the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu , with the terminal’s design reflecting the cultural heritage of Rajamahendravaram . In line with the vision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu , the airport is being strengthened as a major gateway for the Godavari region, boosting regional connectivity , tourism, and local economic growth. The Minister indicated that additional flight services may be introduced in the near future.
In comparison, the greenfield Bhogapuram Airport project in north Andhra is on a much larger scale. While the state budget recently allocated ₹195 crore as an initial provision, the Phase-1 project cost is estimated at about ₹4,592 crore , reflecting its status as a major international airport development. Together, these projects are part of a broader strategy to expand aviation infrastructure across Andhra Pradesh, with feasibility studies and upgrades planned for several other regional airports to strengthen statewide air connectivity.
