Air India Group will begin shifting selected flights from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) in December, starting with four daily domestic services operated by Air India Express. The move comes ahead of the redevelopment of CSMIA’s Terminal 1.

The initial phase will involve four daily domestic services. The airline group has not yet specified which domestic routes will be shifted.

The transition will expand to international operations from January 2027. Planned services to Kuwait will be subject to regulatory approvals, while existing services to Oman will move to NMIA.

Air India Express will progressively shift services to Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Doha, Muscat and Sharjah. The process is expected to be completed by the Northern Summer 2027 aviation season.

The relocation is part of a broader plan involving domestic and international airlines to accommodate the redevelopment of Terminal 1 at CSMIA. The phased shift is intended to allow Air India Group to continue serving the Mumbai market while preserving its existing operating slots at the current airport.

The airline group said the transition plan followed consultations with Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL), the airport operator. The arrangement will distribute selected flight operations between the two airports as the redevelopment progresses.

AAHL said Navi Mumbai International Airport is being developed with advanced technology, multimodal connectivity and scalable infrastructure to support future aviation growth in the region.

Under the plan, passengers travelling to and from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region will have flights operating from both airports. Travellers will need to check their tickets and departure details carefully as the shift takes place in phases, since the departure airport may differ depending on the service.

Air India Group comprises full-service carrier Air India and low-cost airline Air India Express. The group operates more than 300 aircraft and serves 60 domestic and 51 international destinations.

Air India Express operates more than 585 daily flights, connecting 48 domestic and 17 international destinations.
