Air India A320 Returns to Delhi Mid-Flight Over Suspected Technical Snag

A Kathmandu-bound Air India aircraft returned to Delhi after developing a suspected technical issue during its operation on Saturday, with the airline later arranging an alternative aircraft to fly passengers to the Nepalese capital.

The incident involved Air India flight AI219, operating from Delhi to Kathmandu on September 19. According to the airline, the Airbus A320 returned to the national capital in accordance with standard operating procedures after the suspected technical problem was detected.

The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, following which all passengers and members of the crew disembarked, Air India said in a statement. The airline subsequently arranged an alternative aircraft to transport the affected passengers to Kathmandu, ensuring that the journey could continue after the precautionary return to Delhi.

Air India did not provide details on the number of passengers travelling on the flight. The carrier also did not disclose the specific nature of the technical issue that prompted the aircraft to turn back. “ The crew operating flight AI219 from Delhi to Kathmandu on September 19 returned to Delhi due to a suspected technical issue, as per standard operating procedure,” the airline said.

It added that the aircraft reached Delhi safely and that all passengers and crew had disembarked. The incident comes amid heightened attention on flight safety and technical reliability, with airlines routinely required to take precautionary measures when an aircraft encounters a suspected technical problem.

Air India said the return was undertaken as a safety measure and that passengers were accommodated on another aircraft for their onward journey. The airline also regretted the inconvenience caused to passengers because of the unforeseen situation.

No injuries or other safety-related concerns were reported in connection with the incident. The airline's statement did not indicate whether the aircraft would undergo further inspection or maintenance before being cleared for subsequent operations.
