AIIMS-Delhi Installs First Made-in-India EP-6000 Endoscopy System

AIIMS-Delhi has installed the first Made-in-India EP-6000 endoscopy system, strengthening the capabilities of its Department of Gastroenterology to provide specialised care to patients, hospital authorities said on Wednesday.

The endoscopy system has been donated to the Department of Gastroenterology by Fujifilm India as a goodwill gesture and as part of the company’s commitment to support patients in need, they said.

AIIMS Director Dr Nikhil Tandon said the institute was happy that a manufacturing facility for endoscopes had been established in India.

“AIIMS has a longstanding commitment to advancing patient care through the adoption of cutting-edge medical technologies and clinical innovation. The installation of the first Made-in-India endoscope system will add to our capabilities to serve patients at large,” he said.

Dr Pramod Garg, head of the Department of Gastroenterology, said the new system would enhance the department’s capabilities to serve a large number of patients.Fujifilm India chief Wada San said the company remained committed to providing quality products and services in India.

The installation of the EP-6000 at AIIMS-Delhi comes as India seeks to strengthen domestic manufacturing of medical devices and reduce dependence on imports while expanding access to advanced healthcare technologies.

Fujifilm India has established an endoscopy manufacturing facility in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, as part of the Centre’s Make-in-India initiative.AIIMS-Delhi is one of the country’s major tertiary-care healthcare institutions and provides specialised medical services to patients.

The new system will support the hospital’s gastroenterology department in providing endoscopic services to patients, hospital authorities said.

The hospital authorities said the system was installed in the Department of Gastroenterology, which caters to patients requiring specialised gastrointestinal care. The donation was described as a goodwill gesture by Fujifilm India and linked to its stated commitment to supporting patients in need.The company’s manufacturing facility in Jodhpur was established as part of the Centre’s Make-in-India initiative, which seeks to encourage domestic manufacturing.

The development comes amid efforts to expand local medical-device manufacturing in India and increase the availability of advanced healthcare technologies.
