AIADMK to Stage Protest Tomorrow, Seeks CBI Probe Into Palani Temple Land Scam

The AIADMK has announced a massive protest in Palani on July 25, demanding a CBI investigation into the alleged fraudulent registration of 1.4 acres of land belonging to the Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple, estimated to be worth around Rs 100 crore. AIADMK General Secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami alleged that the property was illegally registered in favour of private individuals despite litigation pending before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court.

Palaniswami claimed the registration was carried out under suspicious circumstances by a Kodaikanal sub registrar who held additional charge for only one day while the regular official was on leave. He alleged that the land was purchased for just Rs 2 crore, accused the ruling TVK government of attempting to shield those responsible, and described the ongoing CB CID investigation as a "cover up." He further claimed that three principal accused remain absconding and that no action has been taken against the officials involved or the buyers.

The AIADMK said its protest will begin at 9.30 am on July 25 near Mayil Roundabout in Palani, under the leadership of former minister Dindigul C. Srinivasan, to press for a CBI inquiry.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government has transferred the case to the CB CID, suspended the sub registrar and district registrar linked to the registration, and constituted a three member inquiry committee to examine alleged irregularities. Investigators have also conducted searches at five locations in Dindigul district as part of the expanding probe. The HR&CE Department has additionally formed a special committee to inspect the Palani temple's assets and strengthen safeguards for temple properties, while the state government has maintained that all those found responsible will be arrested.

In the latest development, the Madras High Court dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of one of the accused, marking a significant setback as the investigation continues. However, no CBI probe has been ordered so far.
