AIADMK slams DMK over ‘Hidden Truth’ on Tamil Nadu’s parliamentary representation
The principal opposition party in Tamil Nadu, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), on Thursday said it opposes any alteration to the state’s current 7.2 per cent share in the Lok Sabha , even as it remains a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Addressing the issue of delimitation , AIADMK national spokesperson Kovai Sathyan said the party had clearly conveyed its stand during the all-party meeting convened by the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). He stressed that Tamil Nadu’s parliamentary representation must not be altered under any circumstances.
Sathyan accused the DMK government, led by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin , of “concealing the truth” regarding the potential impact of delimitation on the state’s representation in Parliament.
In a strongly worded post on social media platform X, Sathyan claimed that if the total number of Lok Sabha MPs is increased to 850 , Tamil Nadu could secure up to 61 seats . He attributed this projection to a proposal associated with AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
“ Why did the DMK hide this? ” Sathyan questioned, suggesting that the ruling party was not being transparent about possible scenarios that could benefit the state.
Escalating his attack, the AIADMK spokesperson also made sharp remarks against Stalin, alleging that the DMK leadership was misleading the public on the delimitation issue.
The remarks underline growing political tensions in Tamil Nadu over the proposed delimitation exercise, with opposition parties raising concerns about its impact on the state’s representation at the national level.
