AI Tools Can Make Election Process Simpler, More Efficient: Kerala CEO

Kerala Chief Electoral Officer D Sajith Babu has said the use of artificial intelligence-based tools could make the election process simpler, faster and more efficient, as the Election Commission looks to leverage technology for election-related activities. Babu made the remarks after inspecting the security arrangements at the EVM warehouse at Chathamangalam. He later attended a review meeting at the Collectorate conference hall, where officials discussed various aspects of election preparedness.

“AI-based tools would make the election process simpler and more efficient,” Babu said during the meeting. According to an official statement, the Chief Electoral Officer issued guidelines on the effective use of new AI-based tools being developed in accordance with directions from the Election Commission of India. The tools are intended to make election-related activities faster and improve the efficiency of procedures involved in the conduct and management of polls.

The review meeting also covered the status of pending election-related forms and the availability of essential facilities at polling stations. The meeting was chaired by District Collector M S Madhavikutty, with officials taking stock of issues that could affect election-related work at the district level. The pendency of various forms was reviewed as part of efforts to ensure that administrative processes are completed within the required timelines.

The officials also discussed the basic infrastructure and facilities available at polling booths, an important component of election preparedness. The inspection of the EVM warehouse and subsequent review meeting formed part of the preparations and monitoring of election-related arrangements in the district.

The Election Commission has been increasingly exploring the use of technology to streamline electoral processes and improve administrative efficiency. The latest directions on AI-based tools are aimed at supporting officials in handling election-related activities more effectively while ensuring that established procedures continue to be followed.
