AI isn’t just for techies - it’s for educators too!
IIT Madras has recently launched a free online course called "AI for Educators" to help school teachers across India bring the power of artificial intelligence (AI) into their classrooms. The program, offered through the SWAYAM Plus platform in partnership with the IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation, aims to give teachers a solid understanding of AI along with practical tools to improve teaching, assessment, and student engagement.
The course is designed for teachers from Kindergarten to Class XII, and the best part is that it does not require any prior coding or AI experience. Teachers only need basic digital skills and an eagerness to learn. To cater to different subjects and interests, IIT Madras is also offering five specialized AI courses, including AI in Physics, AI in Chemistry, AI in Accounting, Cricket Analytics with AI, and AI/ML using Python. These courses range from 25 to 45 hours, are completely free, and offer optional certification for a small fee through monitored exams at designated centers nationwide.
Created by IIT Madras experts, the courses follow the National Credit Framework and include hands-on activities, real datasets, and case studies to make learning practical and engaging. These materials also help teachers gain confidence in using AI tools in everyday classrooms, preparing students for the future in a technology-driven world.
The last date to register for all six courses is October 10, 2025, and interested teachers can sign up through the SWAYAM Plus platform. For further queries, they can contact pmu-sp@swayam2.ac.in.
This initiative reflects IIT Madras’s commitment to democratizing AI education. By empowering educators with AI knowledge and skills, the program ensures that even students in smaller towns and schools can benefit from modern technology in learning, making classrooms more interactive, insightful, and future-ready.
