Ahmedabad is steadily shaping its identity as a rising sporting hub, and the latest step in that journey came with the official drawing of lots for the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Men’s Cup 2026. Hosted by the Sports Authority of Gujarat, the event marked the formal beginning of preparations for one of Asia’s most competitive volleyball tournaments.

Scheduled to be held from June 20 to 28 at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex , the tournament promises a week of high-intensity matches and continental sporting spirit. The drawing of lots , a transparent method used to determine groupings, brought structure to the competition by dividing 12 participating nations into two pools.

The teams include host nation India alongside Australia, Bahrain, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Korea, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Chinese Taipei, and Thailand. With such a diverse mix of teams, the tournament is expected to deliver both competitive edge and cultural diversity on the court.

Officials highlighted that the event goes beyond just sport. It aims to strengthen international friendship, cultural exchange, and regional cooperation . For many teams, it also serves as a crucial platform to test their strength against some of the best in Asia.

Adding to the significance, Asian Volleyball Confederation president Ramon Tatum Suzara noted that hosting such events will boost Ahmedabad’s global sporting profile. With the city preparing for the Commonwealth Games 2030 , tournaments like the AVC Men’s Cup are seen as stepping stones in building infrastructure, experience, and local enthusiasm.

As the countdown begins, Ahmedabad is not just preparing to host matches, it is preparing to welcome Asia, celebrate sport, and showcase its growing stature on the international stage.
