A bomb threat aboard an Ahmedabad-Hyderabad flight triggered a security alert at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International (RGIA) Airport on Saturday, October 17, after a 12-year-old girl allegedly told a fellow student that there was a bomb on the aircraft. The threat later turned out to be a prank, with officials confirming that no suspicious object was found.

The Class 7 student was returning to Hyderabad with her classmates and teachers after a school trip to Gujarat when she made the remark. A cabin crew member overheard the conversation and alerted the pilot, prompting the security response, according to police.

Media reports identified the aircraft as IndiGo flight 6E6728 and said the school group included 45 students and three teachers from a private school in Quthbullapur, Hyderabad.

After the aircraft landed, it was reportedly directed to an isolation bay as a precaution. Passengers were safely disembarked, and security personnel conducted checks of the aircraft and luggage to establish whether there was any genuine threat.

Personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and local police reportedly carried out an anti-sabotage inspection. A police official said the search did not uncover any suspicious objects or explosive materials.

The security alert was subsequently resolved, and passengers and students were allowed to leave after the checks were completed, according to local media reports.

Police said no case was registered against the girl because she was a minor. Her teachers counselled her following the incident. Officials said she had made the remark unknowingly and had no intention of issuing a genuine threat.

The incident prompted security personnel to follow established procedures for a potential bomb threat, even though no explosive device was found. Such alerts are treated seriously because of the risks they could pose to passengers, crew members and airport operations.
