Agri minister Tummala urges timely fertilizer supply ahead of Rabi season

Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has urged the central government to ensure there is no shortage of fertilizers during the upcoming Rabi cropping season. In a letter to the Union Fertilizers Department, he requested clear guidelines on the supply of urea allocated to the state.

The minister stated that the central government has allocated 10.40 lakh tonnes of urea for Telangana’s Rabi season. He emphasized that at least 6 lakh tonnes should be supplied immediately for the first three months, as sowing has already begun in districts across the state and farmers are eagerly waiting for fertilizers.

Telangana’s government is making all necessary arrangements to support farmers and ensure smooth cultivation of Rabi crops. However, any delay in central supplies could cause significant difficulties for farmers. The state plans to cultivate crops on 25 lakh acres during this season, requiring urea, Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP), and Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium (NPK) fertilizers to be readily available.

During the Kharif season, fertilizer shortages caused serious problems for farmers. With sowing underway, delayed urea supplies have forced them to buy fertilizers from the market at prices 100-150 rupees higher per bag than government rates. This has affected crop growth, leading to yellowing of plants and reduced yields.

To prevent such issues this season, Minister Tummala directed officials to set up special monitoring teams at the district level and ensure farmers receive fertilizers on time without paying inflated prices. He reaffirmed that the state government remains committed to farmers’ welfare and, with support from the central government, aims to make the Rabi season a success.
