Agnikul raises ₹150 crore to accelerate reusable rocket development

Space-tech startup Agnikul Cosmos has announced that ₹150 crore has been raised in a fresh funding round, valuing the company at over half a billion dollars. The capital is expected to be utilised for the development of reusable launch vehicles, marking a significant step forward for India’s private space sector.

The IIT-Madras–incubated company said that a sub-orbital rocket launch had been demonstrated last year, and preparations are underway for small satellites to be placed into low Earth orbit next year using its fully 3D-printed Agnibaan rocket. Work is also being carried out on recovering the lower stage of the launch vehicle so it can be reused for future missions.

According to the company, the fundraise was described as enabling work on advanced missions, increasing launch frequency, and strengthening India’s global contributions. Participation in the round was recorded from several family offices and institutional investors, including Advenza Global Limited, Atharva Green Ecotech LLP, HDFC Bank, Artha Select Fund, Prathithi Ventures, and 100X.VC.

Agnikul stated that the capital will be deployed toward scaling production units for aerospace and rocket components and advancing its stage-recovery programme. Part of the funds has been earmarked for the company’s upcoming integrated space campus on the 350 acres allotted by the Tamil Nadu government, where end-to-end facilities for manufacturing and testing launch systems are planned to be established.

The startup added that its reusable launch architecture will be strengthened, building upon a recently granted patent designed to extend the operational life of upper stages. The innovation was said to open new pathways for cost-efficient orbital access and move Agnikul closer to becoming the world’s first recoverable small-satellite launch vehicle.

Growing demand for launches was highlighted, with more than a dozen customers reported to be awaiting missions. An indigenous facility near India’s upcoming launchpad is being planned to meet global timelines and market expectations with greater responsiveness.

Agnikul said its customer base spans India, the Middle East, and Australia, reflecting increasing international confidence in India’s spacetech capabilities. Recently, a new large-format metal additive manufacturing unit was announced, enabling the use of 3D printing across multiple rocket subsystems beyond engines.
