After release, Pappu Yadav accuses NDA of targeting opponents using old cases

Independent MP Pappu Yadav walked out of jail on Friday after a Patna court granted him bail in a three-decade-old forgery case dating back to 1995.

Yadav, who represents the Purnea Lok Sabha constituency , had been arrested last week in connection with the case. Although bail was granted earlier this week, his release was delayed due to two other pending cases registered against him.

Following his release, the MP launched a sharp attack on his political opponents and the ruling NDA, alleging that old cases from the 1990s were being revived selectively to target opposition leaders.

“How can the NDA dig up cases from the 1990s and arrest its political opponents now? This is nothing but political vendetta,” Yadav told reporters outside the jail.

He further alleged that senior police officials were conspiring to eliminate him and claimed there was even a plan to harm him during his hospital stay. “There was a conspiracy to get me killed in the hospital,” he said.

On the court’s orders, Yadav had been kept under judicial custody at Patna Medical College and Hospital for two days due to health issues.

Terming his release a triumph of justice, he said, “If I have won today, it is the victory of justice. I am grateful to the judiciary for separating truth from lies.”

Yadav also thanked leaders cutting across party lines for supporting him during his detention, including Rahul Gandhi , Priyanka Gandhi Vadra , Tej Pratap Yadav, Digvijay Singh, Manoj Jha, Anand Mohan and Asaduddin Owaisi .

Reiterating his stand on the recent controversy involving the death of a NEET aspirant, Yadav said he would continue to raise the issue of safety for women students living in hostels.

“I will not let the fight for the NEET girl stop,” he asserted.

Before his arrest, the MP had claimed that police action against him was linked to his vocal criticism of the government over the handling of the case. He had accused the authorities of failing to ensure security for girl students and of attempting to silence him by reviving old legal cases.

The development has once again triggered political debate in Bihar, with opposition leaders alleging misuse of investigative agencies, while the government maintains that law is taking its own course.
