After Raja Saab setback, Maruthi banks on comedy with ‘Happy Pongal’

After the setback of Raja Saab , director Maruthi is set to bounce back with what he does best - a full-fledged comedy entertainer. As per industry sources, Maruthi has already started developing a fresh script titled ‘Happy Pongal’ , which is being shaped as a festive, family-friendly film packed with humour, emotions, and celebration.

The title itself strongly hints at a Sankranthi festival release , and insiders say the makers are keen to align the film’s theme and mood with the biggest festive season for Telugu cinema. Interestingly, Maruthi’s previous film Raja Saab also arrived during Sankranthi but ended in disappointment. This time, however, he is once again targeting the festive slot with his trademark comedy, which is being viewed within industry circles as a confident and positive move.

Casting discussions are currently in full swing, with Varun Tej and Nithiin emerging as the frontrunners for the lead role. While Varun Tej’s name is said to be at the top of the list, his existing commitments could pose a scheduling challenge, unless he agrees to juggle projects simultaneously.
