After 11 years, boxing icons Mayweather and Pacquiao reunite in exhibition rematch

Boxing fans may get to witness another chapter in one of the sport’s most famous rivalries, but it will not be an official fight. Floyd Mayweather Jr. has confirmed that his much-talked-about rematch with Manny Pacquiao will be staged as an exhibition bout , meaning it will not count toward the fighters’ professional records.

The bout is tentatively scheduled for September 19 in Las Vegas , though the exact venue is still undecided.

Speaking during an interview session with select media, Mayweather said that while several locations are being discussed, nothing has been finalized yet.

“We don’t know exactly where the fight is going to be,” Mayweather said. “The Sphere is one of the places they’ve talked about, but we don’t know if it’s 100 percent going to be there.”

The Las Vegas Sphere , a futuristic arena known for its massive high-resolution video exterior and immersive technology, had been considered as a possible venue and has already become a major attraction on the city’s famous Strip.
