Afghan national arrested in Bengal for illegal border entry

In a swift operation along the India-Bangladesh frontier, the Border Security Force (BSF) arrested an Afghan national in West Bengal’s Nadia district for allegedly entering the country without valid documents.

The man, identified as Aljahi Musafar , a resident of Nimroz province in Afghanistan, was intercepted near the Fatepur border area late Monday during a routine night patrol, a senior BSF officer said. “He was immediately detained. No valid Indian or Bangladeshi travel documents were found with him,” the official added.

After initial questioning by the BSF, Musafar was handed over to Hanskhali Police Station in Nadia for further investigation. Authorities said he could not produce any papers to justify his presence in India. “We are working to determine the route he took to reach Bangladesh and whether anyone assisted him in crossing the international boundary,” a police officer noted.

The accused was later remanded to police custody by a court in Ranaghat . Officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding his journey and possible networks facilitating illegal crossings in the region.

The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in monitoring porous border areas, particularly in districts like Nadia, which witness frequent attempts at unauthorized entry. The BSF said it remains vigilant and continues regular patrols to ensure border integrity and national security.
