An Afghan national was arrested at Goa International Airport for allegedly travelling on fraudulently obtained Indian passports while impersonating Indian citizens, officials said on Monday.

The accused, identified as Diwraj Hiro , a native of Kandahar, Afghanistan , was apprehended at the Immigration Check Post in the early hours of Sunday after authorities detected discrepancies in his travel documents. Officials said he was currently residing in Delhi.

According to investigators, Hiro had recently arrived in Goa from Russia via Bahrain and was allegedly using a fraudulently obtained Indian passport in the name of “Anil Shukla” , purportedly a resident of Delhi. During further verification, officials discovered that he had earlier secured another Indian passport under a different identity, “Suresh Ahuja.”

Authorities said the accused was also in possession of a valid Afghan passport , which he had allegedly renewed outside India. Preliminary investigations revealed that Hiro had travelled to and from India multiple times since 2009 using different identities and travel documents. Officials further found that he had re-entered India on January 2, 2016, after renewing his Afghan passport abroad.

Police suspect the accused used forged Indian identities to facilitate international travel and long-term stay in India while concealing his original nationality.

A case has been registered at the Dabolim Airport police station under relevant sections related to forgery, cheating, impersonation, and fraudulent use of passports . Further investigation is underway to determine how the Indian passports were obtained and whether a larger document forgery network was involved.
