
Advance Tax Boosts India’s Direct Tax Collection to Rs 12.12 Lakh Crore
The government’s net direct tax collection rose 13 per cent to over Rs 12.12 lakh crore till September 17 of the current fiscal, helped by higher advance tax collections, according to data released by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Friday.
Corporate tax collection grew 19.48 per cent to about Rs 5.56 lakh crore, while non-corporate tax collection, covering individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), increased 6 per cent to over Rs 6.16 lakh crore during April 1-September 17.
Securities Transactions Tax (STT) collection increased 53 per cent to Rs 40,214 crore during the period. Gross direct tax collection recorded a 15 per cent growth and stood at over Rs 14.32 lakh crore, the CBDT data showed.
Advance tax collection rose 16.18 per cent to about Rs 5.22 lakh crore till September 17. Advance corporate tax payments increased 18 per cent to over Rs 4.16 lakh crore, while non-corporate advance tax payments grew 9.24 per cent to Rs 1.06 lakh crore.
The data also showed a 29.19 per cent increase in refunds, which crossed Rs 2.20 lakh crore till September 17.
Net direct tax collection reflects the amount remaining after refunds are adjusted against gross collections. The 13 per cent growth in net direct tax collection was recorded during the April 1-September 17 period of the 2026-27 fiscal year, while gross collections grew 15 per cent during the same period.
