Adani Defence Hands Over ‘Prahar’ LMGs, Strengthening Army’s Combat Edge

In a significant boost to India’s military modernisation and indigenous defence manufacturing push, Adani Defence and Aerospace has delivered the first batch of 2,000 ‘Prahar’ light machine guns (LMGs) to the Indian Army . The delivery, carried out at the company’s facility in Gwalior , marks a major milestone under the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat programmes aimed at reducing dependence on imported weapon systems. The 7.62 mm ‘Prahar’ LMG is designed for high reliability and sustained firepower, significantly enhancing frontline combat capabilities in challenging terrains and high-intensity conflict zones.

The handover ceremony was attended by A Anbarasu , Director General (Acquisition) at the Ministry of Defence , and Ashish Rajvanshi , along with senior officials. The event concluded with the flagging off of trucks carrying the first consignment. Rajvanshi noted that the project, initiated six years ago, has achieved delivery nearly 11 months ahead of schedule, with the full order of around 40,000 LMGs set to be completed within the next three years.

Beyond this milestone, the company part of the Adani Group and headquartered in Hyderabad has rapidly emerged as a key private-sector player in India’s defence ecosystem. With manufacturing hubs in Gwalior and Kanpur, it produces small arms, ammunition, drones, missile systems, and advanced aerospace components, positioning itself as a comprehensive defence manufacturer.

The development underscores a broader transformation in India’s defence sector, where private firms are playing an increasingly vital role. Officials highlighted that such timely deliveries demonstrate the industry’s ability to convert contracts into operational assets efficiently, strengthening national security preparedness.

With the induction of the Prahar LMGs, India takes another decisive step towards self-reliance in defence production, enhancing military readiness while steadily moving towards becoming a global hub for advanced defence manufacturing.
