The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) organised ‘Suraksha Ka Tiranga’, a cyber-awareness campaign at the TGICCC auditorium in Banjara Hills on Friday as part of the Independence Day initiatives. Actor Akkineni Nagarjuna attended the programme as the chief guest, along with Telangana DGP C.V. Anand and Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar.

The campaign focused on strengthening public awareness about cyber threats and encouraging safe and responsible digital behaviour. Students from Spark Clubs and representatives of retired employees’ associations participated in the programme, highlighting the need for wider community involvement in tackling online fraud.

Addressing the media, Nagarjuna said awareness was the most effective defence against the rapidly growing threat of cybercrime. He praised the Telangana cybercrime units for their efforts and urged citizens to remain cautious while using digital platforms.

Nagarjuna also revealed that he had personally fallen victim to a cyber fraud four years ago. He said he received a call from someone posing as a bank official who pressured him to make investments. Members of his family were also allegedly threatened through a “digital arrest” scam.

Sharing some of his own security practices, the actor said he avoids storing even photographs on his mobile phone and changes his passwords every week. He also praised the Telangana Police for their efforts to curb film piracy, saying DGP C.V. Anand and Commissioner Sajjanar had played an important role in tackling the menace.

DGP C.V. Anand said the police and the public must prepare for increasingly complex threats. He identified cybercrime, narcotics and organised crime as some of the biggest challenges likely to confront the police system over the next decade.

He said initiatives such as ‘Suraksha Ka Tiranga’ were aimed at making citizens active partners in preventing cybercrime and building a more secure digital environment across Telangana.
