Actor and comedian Russell Brand faces additional rape and sexual assault charges
Actor and comedian Russell Brand has been charged with two additional counts of rape and sexual assault , adding to a series of serious allegations that have kept him under investigation for the past two years, according to a report by Deadline .
The UK’s Metropolitan Police confirmed that the new charges relate to two more women, expanding the scope of the case beyond the earlier allegations already filed against the actor. Brand had previously been charged with two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault.
Importantly, while the allegations first came into public focus in 2023 , no criminal charges were filed at that time. The claims emerged through a joint investigation by Channel 4’s Dispatches documentary and the Sunday Times , in which five women, four of whom chose to remain anonymous, shared accounts of alleged sexual misconduct. These revelations prompted a formal police investigation but did not immediately lead to prosecution.
Following nearly two years of investigation, the Metropolitan Police formally filed charges against Brand earlier in 2025 . He later appeared before London’s Southwark Crown Court , where he pleaded not guilty to all the charges. The trial related to those earlier charges is scheduled to begin on June 3, 2026 . Brand remains on conditional bail.
In relation to the newly added charges, Brand is expected to appear in court on January 20, 2026 . A separate trial for those charges is expected to begin approximately six months later.
Brand has consistently denied all allegations against him and has stated that he is grateful for the opportunity to defend himself in court.
In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said that the women who have come forward, including those connected to the new charges, are receiving ongoing support from specially trained officers. Authorities added that the investigation remains active and urged anyone affected by the case or anyone with relevant information to contact the police.
Russell Brand , known for his roles in popular films such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall , Get Him to the Greek , Despicable Me (voice) has built a career as a comedian, actor, and media personality. He has not been convicted in the case so far, and legal proceedings remain ongoing.
