Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday began his six day diplomatic tour of Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand , describing the visit as a significant step towards strengthening India's Act East Policy , advancing the MAHASAGAR Vision , and reaffirming the country's commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo Pacific.

The visit, which runs from July 6 to July 11 , is aimed at deepening India's strategic partnerships with the three countries while expanding cooperation in defence, trade, investment, technology, education and cultural exchanges. In his departure statement, Modi said the tour would build on the strong momentum achieved in India's bilateral relations with each of the three nations.

The Prime Minister's first stop is Indonesia , where he is holding talks with President Prabowo Subianto . Recalling that India and Indonesia elevated their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during his 2018 visit, Modi said the current visit would help further strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors. As part of his engagements, he is also scheduled to meet members of the Indian diaspora and visit the historic Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta with President Prabowo, highlighting the centuries old civilisational and cultural bonds shared by the two countries.

Following his Indonesia visit, Modi is scheduled to travel to Melbourne for discussions with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese . The two leaders are expected to review progress in the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and explore ways to enhance cooperation in defence and security, trade and investment, education, mobility, emerging and critical technologies, sports and sports science. Modi will also interact with the Indian community in Australia, describing the diaspora as a key pillar of bilateral relations.

The final leg of the tour will take the Prime Minister to Auckland , where he is set to meet New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon . Building on Luxon's visit to India in 2025, the leaders are expected to discuss ways to expand economic, trade and commercial cooperation , including progress under the Free Trade Agreement . Modi will also address a large gathering of the Indian diaspora, recognising its valuable contribution to strengthening ties between the two countries.

The Prime Minister said the visit reflects India's growing engagement with the Indo Pacific region under the MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security Across the Regions) Vision, which seeks to promote regional security, sustainable development and stronger international partnerships. The three nation tour is expected to further reinforce India's role as a trusted and influential partner in shaping the future of the Indo Pacific.
