ACC Clears Appointment of Vivek Kumar Dewangen as NCSC Secretary

Senior bureaucrat Vivek Kumar Dewangen, a 1993-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Manipur cadre, has been appointed Secretary of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), according to an official order issued by the Personnel Ministry on Saturday.

The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), which cleared Dewangen’s appointment to the key administrative position, the order said.

Dewangen, who belongs to the 1993 IAS batch, has served in various administrative capacities during his career. His appointment to the NCSC comes as part of the Centre’s latest bureaucratic changes and is expected to strengthen the commission’s administrative functioning.

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes is a constitutional body responsible for monitoring safeguards provided to Scheduled Castes under the Constitution and other laws. It also examines complaints and grievances concerning the rights and safeguards of members of Scheduled Castes and advises the government on matters related to their socio-economic development.

As Secretary, Dewangen will be responsible for overseeing the commission’s administrative operations and supporting its constitutional and statutory functions. The post involves coordination with government departments and agencies on issues concerning Scheduled Castes.

The Personnel Ministry’s order formally communicated the ACC’s decision and confirmed Dewangen’s appointment to the post.

The move is part of the Centre’s ongoing senior-level administrative appointments involving experienced civil servants across key ministries, departments and constitutional bodies.

Dewangen’s long experience as a senior IAS officer is expected to bring administrative expertise to the commission as it continues to address issues related to the implementation of safeguards and welfare measures for Scheduled Castes.

The appointment takes effect in accordance with the terms specified in the government order.
