Abhishek Sharma hospitalised, doubtful for Namibia T20 clash
Indian opener Abhishek Sharma has been hospitalised with a stomach infection , casting doubt over his availability for Thursday’s T20 World Cup match against Namibia . The 25-year-old has been under medical care in a private Delhi hospital for the past two days.
A BCCI source said, “Abhishek has been admitted due to a stomach infection. Tests are underway to determine the exact problem. It is still not clear whether he will be discharged today. As of now, the Namibia game looks doubtful for him.”
The team management, however, remains hopeful of having Sharma fit for the crucial match against Pakistan in Colombo on February 15 , though his participation will depend on how quickly he recovers . Sources revealed that Sharma had attended a team dinner hosted by head coach Gautam Gambhir on Sunday, but left much earlier than his teammates, raising early concerns about his condition.
Sharma’s potential absence comes as a setback for India’s top-order, which relies on his aggressive batting style to set the tone in the T20 format. The final decision on his participation will depend on the medical evaluation over the next 24 hours .
