India’s Abhay Singh produced a defining performance on the PSA Squash World Tour , defeating Egyptian world No. 13 Aly Abou Eleinen to storm into his maiden Gold level quarterfinal at the Grasshopper Cup in Zurich on Friday.

The world No. 24 showed strong resilience, especially after falling behind 5-8 in the opening game. Abhay regrouped quickly, controlled the key points, and closed out the contest 12-10, 11-9 in straight games against the seventh seed.

This result adds to his growing reputation, as Abhay had also beaten Eleinen earlier this month at the El Gouna Open in Egypt, reinforcing his consistency against top-ranked squash players.

“I stuck to my game plan. There are still a few things I can work on. We will go back to the drawing board tonight,” Abhay said after the win, reflecting a focused and grounded approach despite the big breakthrough.

He now moves into a high-profile Gold quarterfinal clash against Egyptian world No. 4 Karim Gawad, where he faces a major test of his rising form.

Earlier in the tournament, Abhay began his campaign with a hard-fought opening-round win over Switzerland’s David Bernet, edging a tight three-game battle 11-9, 9-11, 11-8 .

Meanwhile, fellow Indian Ramit Tandon exited the event in the first round after a straight-games loss to Egypt’s Fares Dessouky, 6-11, 9-11 .

Abhay’s run in Zurich marks an important milestone in Indian squash, signaling his steady rise among the sport’s elite.
