The Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann , secured a confidence motion in the Assembly on Labour Day, delivering a strong political message amid recent turbulence. The special session was strategically timed to coincide with May Day, allowing the ruling party to blend symbolism with a show of strength following the defection of seven Rajya Sabha MPs to the Bharatiya Janata Party. Moving the motion, Mann dismissed rumours of instability and asserted that the party remains united under Arvind Kejriwal, highlighting its growing footprint across states. The opposition, including Congress and other parties, either walked out or boycotted the proceedings, resulting in the motion being passed without resistance, but also reflecting deepening political divisions.

At the same time, the government used the platform to highlight its governance record, including welfare measures like free electricity and economic achievements such as attracting ₹60,256 crore investments in 2025–26, as noted by Minister Sanjeev Arora. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema also accused the Centre of using agencies for political purposes, intensifying the ongoing confrontation.
