AAP flags ‘serious security lapse’ after car breaches Delhi Assembly gate

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday alleged a serious security lapse after a car breached a gate of the Delhi Assembly and entered the premises, triggering concerns over safety in the national capital’s high-security zones.

According to party leaders, a masked individual drove an SUV through one of the Assembly’s boundary gates and entered the complex. The person reportedly placed a flower bouquet inside the vehicle of the Assembly Speaker parked on the porch before fleeing, prompting authorities to sound a high alert .

AAP MLA and Chief Whip Sanjeev Jha termed the incident a “serious lapse” , questioning how a vehicle could break through the gate of a heavily guarded facility. Sharing an image of the damaged entry point, he said the breach raises serious questions about existing safeguards and enforcement on the ground.

Highlighting inconsistencies, Jha remarked that while opposition MLAs often face strict checks at entry points, an unauthorised vehicle managed to gain direct access. He also linked the incident to recent developments, citing bomb threats and an attack on the chief minister , and questioned the overall effectiveness of the capital’s security system.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj criticised the authorities, stating that while any form of intrusion is condemnable, the handling of security and alleged bias remain a concern. He referred to a recent incident involving AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar, whose vehicle was allegedly attacked in the presence of police personnel.

While the exact motive behind the breach remains unclear, the act particularly the placement of a bouquet suggests it may have been a symbolic or attention-seeking gesture rather than an immediate violent attempt. However, officials are also examining whether it reflects an individual protest or other intent.

There was no immediate response from Assembly authorities. The incident has nevertheless exposed critical vulnerabilities in security at a key government establishment.
