Aamir Khan and Vir Das hilariously spar over ‘flop’ film in ‘Happy Patel’ announcement
Aamir Khan Productions has officially unveiled its next project, Happy Patel , a spy comedy that also marks the directorial debut of actor-comedian Vir Das. The film will see Das in a lead role alongside Mona Singh, blending action, humor, and quirky storytelling.
The announcement was anything but conventional. A video released by the production house shows Aamir Khan engaging in a playful yet hilarious clash with Vir Das over his filmmaking choices. In the clip, Khan questions Das on his approach to action sequences, romance, and even item numbers, taking digs at his earlier "flop" film.
In a memorable moment, Aamir jokingly told Vir Das that an item song would “keep us safe,” using it as a metaphor for the usual crowd-puller in films. His comment playfully critiqued Vir’s choice to perform the number himself instead of including a proper special song. Vir defended his decision, calling it a “hatke (unique)” approach, but Aamir teased that he only uses that term in interviews.
The video continues with playful banter. Aamir points out that the film’s romance involves the heroine slapping Vir, to which Das replies, “Everyone loves dominance in 2025.” When Vir brings up Laal Singh Chaddha , Aamir jokingly beats him again, much to the delight of fans.
Audiences have responded with enthusiasm to the announcement. Comments flooded the post, with viewers expressing excitement for the duo’s reunion. Happy Patel marks the first collaboration between Aamir Khan Productions and Vir Das in nearly 14 years, following their hit film Delhi Belly in 2011, which also starred Imran Khan.
Known for backing critically acclaimed films like Lagaan , Taare Zameen Par , Dangal , and Secret Superstar , Aamir Khan Productions is set to release Happy Patel in theaters on January 16, 2026.
