Aadhaar Data Magic: Divyang Child Reunites with Family After a Year in Assam
In a heartwarming example of how technology can change lives, a divyang child in Assam has been reunited with her family after nearly a year, with the help of Aadhaar biometric data .
The child was first found alone on May 29, 2025, by local residents at Dilli Ghat in Namrup , Dibrugarh district. Unable to communicate due to intellectual disabilities , she was handed over to the local police and later placed under the care of the Child Welfare Committee, Dibrugarh .
She was later shifted to Mrinaljyoti Jyotiniwas Children Home, Duliajan , where she received care and protection. However, identifying her family remained a major challenge as she could not share any personal details.
In a key development, the superintendent of the children’s home approached the UIDAI Regional Office, Guwahati for assistance. Officials suggested collecting her fingerprint biometrics and matching them with Aadhaar records to trace her identity.
Once enrolled, the Aadhaar system successfully matched her biometric data with existing records, revealing her home address in Charaideo district .
Based on this breakthrough, authorities traced her family and facilitated her emotional reunion at Borhat tea estate, bringing an end to months of uncertainty.
Officials said the case highlights how digital identity systems like Aadhaar can play a crucial role in locating missing persons, especially those unable to communicate, and ensuring they are safely reunited with their families.
