A New Horizon: Hot Air Balloon Rides Launch in Telangana

In an effort to diversify tourism offerings and promote adventure travel , the Telangana Tourism Department has launched hot air balloon rides at select tourist destinations across the state, officials said on Monday.

The initiative has been rolled out on a pilot basis at locations including Hyderabad outskirts, Warangal, Nagarjuna Sagar and select heritage and eco-tourism hubs . Officials said the department plans to gradually expand the service to additional locations based on tourist response and operational feasibility .

The programme, launched this month, is part of the state government’s broader strategy to promote adventure tourism, eco-tourism and experiential travel . The hot air balloon rides offer tourists panoramic aerial views of farmlands, hill ranges, reservoirs and historic monuments , providing a unique perspective of Telangana’s natural and cultural landscape .

According to officials, the balloon rides are being conducted in accordance with international safety standards and aviation guidelines . Flights are operated only during favourable weather conditions , primarily during early morning and late afternoon hours . Certified pilots and trained ground staff are overseeing operations, with mandatory safety checks carried out before each flight.

The Telangana Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) is promoting the initiative through digital platforms and social media campaigns , including the “Telangana Zaroor Aana” outreach, to attract tourists from across India and abroad. Officials said the initiative is expected to gain momentum during the current tourism season and peak further during the winter months .

Hot air ballooning , a premium tourism activity commonly available in destinations such as Jaipur, Agra and Goa , is now being introduced in Telangana as part of efforts to align the state with national and international tourism standards . Officials said the programme is expected to generate local employment opportunities and contribute to the state’s tourism-driven economic growth .

The Tourism Department said a review of the pilot phase will be conducted in the coming months, following which decisions will be taken on scaling up operations and adding new locations .
