The Andhra Pradesh government has taken a major step to boost employment for local candidates by increasing reservation to 95% in direct recruitment for Junior Assistant and other lower-level posts.

As per the new guidelines, most vacancies in local cadre positions will be filled by candidates from the same area. This applies to posts at the Junior Assistant level and similar roles, especially in village and ward secretariats and district offices, while only 5% of jobs will remain open to all applicants.

The policy also extends to positions under local bodies with pay scales up to that of a Junior Assistant, including departments like Panchayat Raj and Municipal Administration . The move is expected to limit job-related migration, strengthen local participation in governance, and enhance public service delivery.

Certain offices, however, are exempt from this rule. These include the State Secretariat, Heads of Departments, special institutions, state-level organizations, and police posts under the capital region commissionerate, where recruitment will continue as per existing norms.

Introduced in line with amendments to Presidential Orders, the decision raises local reservation from 80% to 95% , reducing competition from non-local candidates and improving job prospects for local youth.

Overall, this reform marks a significant shift in the state’s recruitment system, offering a strong advantage to candidates preparing for Group-4 roles such as Junior Assistant, Typist, and Data Entry Operator, while also encouraging regional development.
