₹91-Crore Penna River Bridge to Reduce Travel Distance by 20 Km

Construction of a major bridge across the Penna River at Budigumma village in Beluguppa mandal of Anantapur district is progressing at a brisk pace, with the Andhra Pradesh government investing ₹91 crore in the project, State Roads and Buildings Minister BC Janardhan Reddy has said.

In a post on his X account, the minister said construction was continuing despite water remaining in the river for the past three months. Heavy machinery is being used to carry out foundation work using the pile foundation method, ensuring that construction progresses despite challenging conditions.

The project also includes the construction of approach roads extending six kilometres on either side of the bridge. These roads are expected to improve connectivity between nearby villages and key routes in the district.

Once completed, the bridge will provide a shorter route for people travelling from Anantapur to Rayadurg via Kuderu and Beluguppa, reducing the journey by approximately 20 kilometres. The shorter route is expected to save commuters considerable travel time and reduce transportation expenses.

The project will also benefit farmers from more than 20 surrounding villages by making it easier to transport agricultural produce to markets. Improved connectivity is expected to ease logistical difficulties for farmers and support local economic activity.

According to the minister, residents of the region have faced transportation problems for decades, and the bridge is expected to provide a lasting solution to their connectivity concerns.

Janardhan Reddy said the coalition government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was prioritising infrastructure development and improving transport facilities across Andhra Pradesh. The bridge is expected to strengthen regional connectivity while supporting agricultural trade and making daily travel more convenient for residents.
