8,000 Screens, ₹10.60 Crore Advance Sales: Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ Creates Release Buzz Worldwide

Actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay’s final film ‘Jana Nayagan’ is set to hit theatres worldwide on July 23, with the production house KVN Productions announcing a massive global release plan amid unprecedented fan excitement.

The film will be released across nearly 8,000 screens in 30 countries and Indian states, with advance bookings witnessing a huge response. In Tamil Nadu alone, around 3,500 shows have been scheduled, with the number expected to rise further due to overwhelming demand.

The film, which has a runtime of 3 hours and 3 minutes, has already generated record-level anticipation. Industry sources said advance ticket sales crossed ₹10.60 crore within hours, while Tamil Nadu theatres reported over 90,000 tickets sold shortly after bookings opened. Several major theatres in Chennai witnessed rapid sell-outs, highlighting the massive fan following surrounding Vijay’s last cinematic appearance. Theatre owners have indicated that the film could potentially enter the ₹1,000 crore box office club, given the scale of audience interest. However, the film’s journey to release was marked by delays, certification hurdles, legal challenges and piracy concerns.

KVN Productions confirmed that the theatrical version will be significantly different from the earlier cut submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The makers used the seven-month delay to add new footage, songs and multiple modifications. The final version includes changes to the title card, referring to Vijay as the “Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu”, along with references connected to his political journey and party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

The state government has capped ticket prices at ₹190 in Chennai to regulate crowd management and ensure public safety during the release. The film will be screened across around 900 theatres in Tamil Nadu. Directed by H Vinoth, ‘Jana Nayagan’ features an ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj and Narain. The film’s music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan and editing by Pradeep E Ragav.

As Vijay transitions from cinema to full-time politics, ‘Jana Nayagan’ is being viewed by fans as a historic farewell to his film career and a cultural milestone.
