8 Dead, 32 Injured in Madhya Pradesh Road Crash After Pick-Up Hits Truck

Eight labourers were killed and 32 others injured after a pick-up vehicle carrying them collided head-on with a dumper truck in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district in the early hours of Tuesday, police said.

The accident occurred around 1 am near Chhimka village on the Bhind-Gwalior National Highway. The labourers were returning to their native village in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, after completing paddy transplantation work in Gwalior.

According to preliminary investigations, the accident occurred when the driver of the pick-up vehicle attempted to avoid cattle sitting on the highway. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which moved onto the wrong side of the road and collided with a dumper truck approaching from the opposite direction.

Gohad Chauraha police station in-charge Ramnaresh Yadav said the impact of the collision badly damaged the pick-up vehicle, leaving several labourers trapped inside.

Five labourers died on the spot, while three others succumbed to their injuries while being taken to hospital, the police official said. Another 32 workers sustained injuries in the crash.

Following the accident, police teams rushed to the spot after receiving information and, with the assistance of local residents, rescued the labourers trapped inside the mangled vehicle.

All the injured workers were immediately taken to a hospital in Gohad, where they received first aid. Those with serious injuries were subsequently referred to Gwalior for further treatment, police said.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks faced by migrant labourers travelling on highways, particularly during late-night journeys. Police have initiated further investigation to establish the circumstances leading to the collision.
