7,717 Schools join RTE quota for 2025–26 in TN

The Government of Tamil Nadu has announced that the final phase of admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the academic year 2025–26 will take place on October 30 and 31. An official release stated that 7,717 private schools across the State have registered under the RTE quota this year. A total of 81,927 students have applied for LKG admissions and 89 applications have been received for Class I under the mandatory 25 per cent reservation for children from weaker and disadvantaged groups.

On October 30, eligible children will be admitted in schools where applications do not exceed the available RTE seats. In institutions where applications surpass the seat count, a transparent draw of lots will be conducted on October 31 in the presence of school heads and parents.

Following completion of the process, the selected students will be tagged under the RTE quota in the EMIS portal to ensure their official enrolment for the academic year. The State clarified that no fee may be collected from RTE-admitted children and any amount already paid must be refunded within seven working days.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, inclusion, and safeguarding every child’s constitutional right to free and compulsory education.
