
58-year-old man booked for raping minor girl in Thane
Police have registered a case against a 58-year-old man for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl in Maharashtra’s Thane district, officials said on Tuesday.
According to police, the accused allegedly sexually assaulted the minor repeatedly between December 2025 and February 2026 after luring her to his house on some pretext in the Nizampura area of Bhiwandi , an official from Bhoiwada police station said.
The incident came to light after the victim’s family approached the police and filed a complaint. Based on the complaint, authorities on Sunday registered a case against the accused under Section 64 (rape) and Section 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita , along with relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act .
Police officials said the accused allegedly called the child to his residence under various pretexts during the period when the offence reportedly occurred. Investigators have begun collecting evidence and are taking steps to trace and apprehend the accused , while further inquiries are underway.
Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the victim in accordance with legal provisions protecting minors involved in sexual assault cases. Police also said no reason has yet been specified by the victim’s family for the delay in filing the complaint .
Further investigation in the case is ongoing.
