55 more AP residents rescued from Myanmar cyber scam camps

Another 55 people from Andhra Pradesh, who had been trapped in the custody of cyber-crime syndicates in Myanmar, have safely returned to India. They were among hundreds who had been lured abroad with fake promises of high-paying jobs.

According to officials, the Indian government traced and rescued the victims, bringing them back to New Delhi on special flights. Of the 370 Indians repatriated so far, these 55 belong to various parts of Andhra Pradesh, mainly Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. Eight police personnel accompanied them during the journey.

Teams from the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan received the group in Delhi and arranged temporary accommodation, food, and immediate support. Since their mobile phones had been confiscated by the traffickers, the returnees arrived home without money or personal belongings. To help them travel back to their native places, the state government provided ₹1,000 to each person for essential expenses.

Officials said the victims were trapped after responding to fraudulent job advertisements circulated through WhatsApp and Telegram. They were later forced to work in a cyber-crime center operating out of KK Park in Myawaddy, a town on the Myanmar-Thailand border. Special Commissioner of AP Bhavan, Arja Srikanth, confirmed that all 55 were rescued from this location.

To ensure their onward journey, AP Bhavan has also coordinated with Northern Railway authorities to secure emergency travel quotas, enabling the returnees to reach their hometowns quickly.

With this latest rescue, the Andhra Pradesh government has now assisted 79 people from the state in returning home from Myanmar’s cyber-fraud hubs. The rescued individuals expressed gratitude to both the Union government and the AP government for ensuring their safe return and for the support provided upon arrival in Delhi.
