52 Unauthorised MTP Kits Worth Rs 23,296 Seized In Bhadrachalam
Officials from the Drugs Wing of the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) have seized 52 unauthorised Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) kits from a wholesale medical shop in Bhadrachalam, Bhadradri Kothagudem district. The seized stock was valued at Rs 23,296.
According to TG SAFE, officials conducted a surprise inspection at a wholesale medical shop on GCC Road in Bhadrachalam on Saturday. During the search, they found 52 ‘A-Care Kit’ MTP packs allegedly stocked for sale without valid purchase invoices.
The kits were manufactured in June 2026 and carry an expiry date of May 2028. The packaging identified Synokem Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Haridwar, as the manufacturer and DKT India, Mumbai, as the marketer, officials said.
Authorities said stocking and selling medicines without proper purchase records is a violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and the rules framed under it. Officials collected samples from the seized stock and sent them for analysis as part of the investigation.
MTP kits generally contain medicines such as mifepristone and misoprostol, which are used under appropriate medical guidance to terminate an early pregnancy in specific circumstances. TG SAFE cautioned that their unsupervised or incorrect use can result in serious complications, including heavy bleeding, incomplete termination of pregnancy and infection.
The inspection was conducted under the supervision of Drugs Inspector G. Ashwini and Khammam Assistant Director M. Aravind Kumar. Officials said further action would be initiated against those responsible after completion of the investigation.
TG SAFE also warned that unauthorised purchase, stocking or sale of MTP kits can attract penal action under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Those found guilty could face imprisonment of up to two years, depending on the applicable provisions and circumstances of the offence.
