5.2 Quake Strikes Manipur, Tremors Felt in Imphal, Ukhrul and Meghalaya

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck the northeastern region of India early Tuesday morning, with its epicenter located in Kamjong district, officials said.

According to authorities, the tremor occurred at around 5:59 am , sending vibrations across several parts of the state. Tremors were distinctly felt in Imphal, Ukhrul district, and even extended to parts of Meghalaya, causing brief alarm among residents.

The earthquake originated in the seismically active northeastern belt , a region prone to frequent tectonic activity due to its proximity to major fault lines.

No casualties or damage to life or infrastructure have been reported so far, officials confirmed. However, the early morning tremors prompted many residents to rush outdoors as a precaution.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation, though no aftershocks of significance have been recorded at the time of reporting.
