50% of Hyderabad Revenue Should Go to City Development: Kishan Reddy

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy has alleged that the Telangana government is concentrating its development efforts largely on the IT corridor while neglecting several other parts of Hyderabad. He demanded that at least 50% of the revenue generated by Hyderabad be allocated to the city’s development.

Kishan Reddy said Hyderabad contributes around 70% of Telangana’s total revenue, yet alleged that less than 5% of the funds are being spent on developing the city. He argued that a larger share of the revenue generated from Hyderabad should be reinvested in improving its infrastructure and civic services.

The Union Minister criticised both the previous BRS government and the present Congress administration, alleging that their focus has remained largely on IT hubs such as HITEC City, Kondapur and Madhapur. At the same time, he said, several established areas including Sanath Nagar, Secunderabad, Musheerabad, Amberpet and Khairatabad have not received adequate attention.

He also expressed concern over the financial condition of key civic agencies. GHMC and Hyderabad Water Works, he claimed, are facing a serious financial crisis and have reached a situation where even salary payments to employees have become difficult.

Kishan Reddy urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who also holds the Municipal Administration portfolio, to take immediate steps to address the situation.

He called for a significant increase in funding for urban infrastructure and civic amenities, arguing that Hyderabad’s contribution to the state economy should be reflected in the resources invested back into the city. He said development should extend beyond the IT corridor and cover all parts of Hyderabad.
