Delhi Police have arrested five members of an inter-state gang accused of stealing jewellery, cash and valuables from passengers on long-distance trains. The arrests were made at the Indira Gandhi International Airport following a tip-off from Maharashtra’s Miraj Railway Police.

The gang was wanted in connection with a case registered on November 26 after jewellery worth ₹10 lakh was reported stolen from a Pune-bound train. Investigators later learned that the suspects had flown to Goa and were scheduled to arrive in Delhi on Sunday, prompting a Crime Branch team to set up surveillance at the airport.

The arrested individuals were identified as Hawa Singh (65), Amit Kumar (35), Kuldeep (34), Ajay (36) and Monu (32), all residents of Haryana’s Jind and Bhiwani districts. During the search, police recovered 177 grams of silver articles, which the accused admitted had been stolen in a separate incident.

According to police, four of the suspects confessed to their involvement in the Maharashtra theft. Information about their detention has been communicated to the Miraj Railway Police for further action.

Investigators said the gang routinely targeted passengers in air-conditioned coaches on long-distance routes, focusing on those carrying jewellery and high-value belongings. They often travelled across states by buses and trains to blend in with travellers and select their targets.

All five suspects are repeat offenders linked to multiple thefts across various states. Further investigation is underway.
