47 complaints filed at Hydra Prajavani over encroachments

Residents from several parts of Hyderabad have raised serious concerns over the growing encroachments on public spaces - including parks, government lands, and lakes. Many alleged that temples and small sheds are being constructed inside park areas, which are later being used for business activities.

During Monday’s Hydra Prajavani public grievance program, citizens submitted a total of 47 complaints. HYDRAA Additional Commissioner N. Ashok Kumar received the petitions and directed concerned officials to take immediate action.

According to HYDRAA officials, members of the Balaji Enclave Residents’ Welfare Association from Machabollaram village in Medchal-Malkajgiri district complained that around 30 guntas of government land (Survey No. 188) had been encroached upon. They requested the government to allocate the site for constructing a government primary school, as the area houses nearly 60 colonies with over 60,000 residents.

In Ameenpur, Sangareddy district, locals reported flooding around the Pedda Cheruvu lake. They said rising water levels have been submerging nearby homes due to blocked drains and raised embankments. Residents demanded a survey to determine the lake’s original boundaries and protect nearby communities from further damage. Roads and electric poles submerged under water clearly indicate, they said, that the lake’s extent has changed over time.

A similar situation was reported from Raviryal village in Maheshwaram mandal, Ranga Reddy district. Residents claimed that vacant plots in the Telangana Housing Board layout - which includes 545 plots - are being encroached upon. They alleged that temples are being built in spaces reserved for parks, while some areas are being rented out with sheds, and even roads are being blocked.

In Bagh Lingampally, under the Musheerabad constituency, residents complained that a 1,300-square-yard children’s park has been converted into a hub for iron and steel shops and vehicle servicing centers. Despite repeated complaints, they said officials have failed to act.

Citizens collectively urged the government to immediately fence public lands, parks, and lakes to prevent further encroachments. HYDRAA officials assured that swift action would be taken on all complaints received.
